Presenting the Self as a Beautiful Figure

Some people who tried to become devout, tend to underestimate the value of beauty. They recognize less beauty which is an Islamic value. Allah SWT made all His creations to contain the value of beauty.

The Shari’a of Al-Quran does not only regulate life and many things outside ourselves, in fact the Shari’a of Al-Quran also regulates all matters relating to ourselves, starting from the food, appearance, behavior, etc. This is all intended to make the Islamic ummah the most excellent (with high qualities) human beings and creatures compared to other human beings and creatures.

"And cattle He has created for you (men): from them (woolen) you derive warmth, and numerous benefits, and of their (meat) you eat. And you have a sense of pride and beauty in them as you drive them home in the evening, and as you lead them forth to pasture in the morning." (An-Nahl: 5-6)

"And (He has created) horses, mules, and donkeys, for you to ride and use for show; and He has created (other) things of which ye have no knowledge." (An-Nahl: 8)

In other verses in the Qur'an, Allah also speaks about the beauty of the sky, the stars, the gardens and various other things.

Beauty stands against badness. Allah is beautiful in His Essence, in His Names and His Attributes, and in His Actions. This is the reason why the greatest pleasure of all pleasures in paradise is seeing the face of Allah SWT. As the verse of Allah in Surah Al-Qiyamah says: 22-23

"Some faces, that Day, will beam (in brightness and beauty); Looking towards their Lord."

Allah creates everything full of goodness and He created man in the best form.

The beauty that is in His creations, on land and at sea and in the sky, prove the beauty of Allah and His power. He who created beauty is the Most worthy for beauty. And of course paradise is adorned with beauty which are out of human imaginations.

Our faith toward the beauty of Allah should also encourage us to care for ourselves, with the appearance, clothings and manners, as well as with the beauty of words and deeds. This is something that Allah wants from us.

This is what had been taught by Prophet Muhammad SAW to his Sahabahs. There may be some people who think that to love beauty can reduce one's faith or put one into the scope of negligence and pride which is hated by Allah SWT and all mankind.

Ibnu Mas'ud narrated that Rasulullah SAW said, "He who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of pride shall not enter Paradise," a person (amongst his hearers) asked, "Verily if a person loves that his dress should be fine, and his shoes should be fine (is that also pride?)," the Prophet SAW said, "Verily, Allah is Beautiful and He loves Beauty. Pride is disdaining the truth (out of self-conceit) and contempt for the people." (Muslim)

Allah is pleased to see the effect of blessings on His servants; these include the beauty that He loves, namely the feelings of gratitude of His servants to Him. Allah is pleased to see beauty born out of His blessings, and the inner beauty manifested by the feelings of gratitude.

Since Allah loves beauty, He then sends down garments and adornments to the humans so that they can adorn their inner and outer selves with taqwa.

Allah beautifies their faces with pureness, their inner soul with joy and their bodies with garments.

Just as He loves beautiful speeches, acts, clothes and circumstances; Allah hates ugly speeches, acts, clothes and circumstances, so Allah hates ugliness and its owners, but loves beauty and its owners. So have we already beautified our selves and akhlaq?
