The Prophet (pbuh) said, “When one of you stands during the night, being unable to properly recite the Qur’an (i.e., it does not flow on his tongue because he is so sleepy) or understand what he is saying, then let him lie down.
[Sahih Muslim]
Commentary:
We benefit from the above Hadith that the Sunnah is refrain from reciting the Qur’an when one is overcome by sleep.
