The Prophet (pbuh) said, “The most learned in the recitation of the Book of Allah should lead the people in prayer. If they are equal, then the most learned of the Sunnah. If they are equal, the one who emigrated (from Makkah to Madinah) first. If they are equal, then the oldest of them.”
[Sahih Muslim]
Commentary:
We benefit from the above Hadith that first and foremost the person who has most right to lead the prayer is most learned person in the recitation of the Qur’an.
