People have abstained from what is lawful but they did not avoid what has been prohibited to them. So, what kind of fasting in which a person says at the Maghrib Adhan: The thirst has gone, veins have wetted, and the reward is confirmed then he lights a cigarette and at night he becomes a servant to his lust, watches satellite channels, surfs the web, or becomes a customer in one of night clubs or in demagogic gatherings which are falsely called "Ramadaanic tents." However, if such a person is called to Tarawih Salaah and Qiyaam, he will count excuses such as sickness, cold, snivel, and the aberration of the villains.
Al Hasan Al Basri commented on Allah's Saying: "And He it is Who has put the night and the day in succession, for such who desires to remember or desires to show his gratitude." [25:62]
He said: "Whoever fails to perform the acts of worship at night, he may make them up in the early beginning of the daytime and whoever fails to perform them in the morning, he may make them up at night because the Lord of the daytime is the Lord of the night."
Nevertheless, you find some people prevent themselves from indulging into sins during the daytime of Ramadaan but by the Adhan of `Isha' and finishing the Tarawih dinner you find the same person enjoying all kinds of sins: Sitting to watch movies and series, listening to songs, standing in the streets to look at girls as if Ramadaan only comes in the daytime and during which sins should not be committed and obedience of the Knower of the Unseen should be applied, but when the night comes, good actions stop and every unlawful action that was prohibited for him in the daytime is done.
We
say to those who look at prohibited matters during the nights of
Ramadaan: Are those the eyes which were shedding tears at reciting the
Qur'an during the daytime of Ramadaan?
And to those who listen to songs in the nights of Ramadaan, are those the ears which used to listen to the words of the Most Gracious in the daytime of Ramadaan?
To those who release their tongues in backbiting and falsehood, are you the ones who used to recite the Qur'an and say amen to the invocations of imams?
Indeed, this is strange.
To those people, we remind you of the words of the Lord of all the Worlds, who says in His Book: "And be not like her who undoes the thread which she has spun, after it has become strong." [16:2]
So, do not waste the rewards of the actions which you were doing in the daytime and do not be like the woman who undoes the beautiful garment which she was sewing by the end of the day. In order to know the value of Ramadaan nights, read with me the following words of the Prophet (saws) where he said: "Whoever establishes Salaah during the nights of Ramadaan out of sincere faith, and hoping to attain Allah's rewards, all his previous sins will be forgiven." [Sahih Bukhari]
The Prophet (saws) also said: "Whoever established Salaah on the Night of the Qadr (the Night of Decree) out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven." [Sahih Bukhari]
The Prophet (saws) also said: "When it is the first night of the month of Ramadaan, the devils are chained, and the rebellious jinns are put in hackles. The gates of Hell are shut and not one of them is opened. And the gates of Paradise are unlocked and none of them is locked. And, an announcer calls: O seeker of good, come forward. And O seeker of evil, desist. And there are many whom Allah frees from Hell-Fire - and that is every night." [At-Tirmidhi, which was also reported in Sahih Al Jami: 759]
So, may the nose of such a person be in dust and mud because all he has done in Ramadaan is to sit and watch movies, series, and competitions, and left the competitions and race to the Paradise which its width is as wide as the heavens and the earth.
Such people have missed the great favor because they have abandoned Qiyaam and were not from the diligent in worship at night.
