All
praise is to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, the forgiver of sins and
the acceptor of repentances, the stern in punishment, the Bountiful,
there is no God but He, and to Him is the return, He tests us, all
praise to Him, with goodness and evil temptations, to see how we work,
whether we are patient or intolerant, so the one who is patient, is
patient for himself and Allah will raise him in grades and lift off the
narrowness and dismay from him, and the one who is intolerant does not
harm anyone except himself and he will get what Allah has written for
him of trials until his reality becomes clear to himself, and Allah goes
by His will in any way and peace and blessings of Allah be upon the
best of His creatures and the master of the messengers, our Prophet
Muhammad and on his family and Companions as a whole. To proceed,
Following the order of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and
Verily religion is advice and, I thought to specify this article in
order to publish some suggestions and send it to our imprisoned
brothers, that perhaps it might ease things on them of what they are in,
(even though we are more in need of it), to remind them that what they
are in is a blessing in the guise of trial, and to bind upon their
hearts and to strengthen their belief in their Lord, and they as you all
know, suffer from the oppression of detention in the hands of those who
do not show them the slightest of consideration, making them endure the
worst of torture, and trying to deviate them from their religion and
ruin their connection with their Creator, until they succumb to what has
befallen them, so that their reward is wasted and their selves are
broken and they get divided resulting in them gathering both the wrath
of Allah Almighty and the sufferings that they receive at the hands of
their tormenters.
As a precaution from me, so that the brothers do not reach this slope
I offer them these words, perhaps it may help them in the removal of
some of their ham and distress and they transcend themselves and their
grief and ascend to greater heights, so I say, and with Allah is
guidance and upon Him is the trust.
My dear brothers who have been chained behind bars and in
imprisonment and detention, I ask Allah to make you stand firm and to
bind upon your hearts and not to trial you by the enemy nor his agents
through the lures of this mortal life or by torture that will very soon
end in comparison with the punishment of Allah and His anger.
My beloved brothers, there are degrees that a believer does not
attain except by sacrificing and facing, in order to glorify his
religion, and what is the aim of a true believer except to achieve the
pleasure of his Lord and to win the Paradise of Satisfaction, and
whatever is planned for and aimed for through His scheming is to shake
the believer off from hell fire and enter him into paradise.
So is there any obstacle that can stop a believer from achieving his
goal and to get his purpose? May it be lure or torture? No, by Allah,
there is no greater nor enduring bliss than the pleasures of paradise,
nor is there a greater and more severe punishment than the punishment of
Hell fire. Hence the believer has to choose for himself what he
desires, and he has to bear the consequences of his choice.
For when the heart of the believer is filled with the love of Allah
and understanding of what awaits him of delights in the hereafter, in
his eyes, all the worldly bliss diminishes especially if that would
cause him to be deprived of the delights of the hereafter, and at the
same time nothing can frighten or scare him from the torture or worldly
threat when it is compared to the eternal torment that awaits him if he
succumbs to the worldly torture and deters him from the obedience to his
Sustainer.
And the prison is one such obstacle that constrains a believing human
being and fastens him to perform his duty, and if all the Mujahedeen
were scared of the prison we wouldn't have seen them in the squares of
Dawah and Jihad. There is great divine wisdom for those who have been
imprisoned, and if we had known the unseen, no harm would ever touch us,
but there are things which we assume are bad and they are filled with
goodness, and the opposite is true and Allah knows best of what befalls
us and He, all praise to Him, destines for his righteous servants what
raises their ranks near Him and lifts His anger off them.
This is how we need to deal with the trial whether it be shortage in
funds or imprisonment or being pursued or anything other than that, and
we need to know that the prison is mercy to many of His servants for it
is from the religious point of view, less mandated from who are out of
it. Moreover, Allah has chosen them to distance them from trials and
evil greater that used to befall them if they stayed out of the prison,
and perhaps the prison is a stage to train and complete the constitution
of the detained, and that Allah Almighty is preparing him for great
happenings and heavier responsibilities which he couldn't have borne
before the detention stage or if he had stayed free. And there are many
wisdom and reasons that we do not know, all of them support and affirm
that the prison does not have to be a reason for our inaction and
staying back from the performance of what Allah has Ordained upon us of
Dawah and Jihad.
Know, may Allah protect you, that Allah has chosen you and has
exalted you from amongst the people so that you be living martyrs, you
display the highest example of sacrifice and forfeit due to the
separation of your families and money and trade and houses so that you
announce to the world that indeed what is with Allah is better and
forever staying and that your Aqeedah is more precious than all of this
and scream at the faces of your torturers “O my Lord! the prison is more
to my liking than that to which they invite me, for the enemies of
Allah want you to sell your religion for a cheap of the world and to
incline you towards them and to make you enter their religion and accept
the humiliation and disgrace. While Allah Almighty wants you to be
slaves to Him alone, that you command what is good and forbid what is
evil and that you believe in Allah alone and that you spread His
religion on earth.
So glad tidings to you for this selection, and be careful that you
are deserving of it and show to your Lord firmness and acceptance of
what has befallen you, and do not leave for Satan even a small opening
that he enters from it into your hearts and deviates you and nullifies
your trust in your Creator. So just as how Allah selects from his
Mujahedeen, martyrs in the fields of battle so that they be the exalted
lot that nourishes this religion by its pure blood, He the Almighty
chooses you so that you be the living martyrs, watering this religion by
your patience and sacrifice and firmness on your religion in spite of
all the lure and torture that you receive in the prisons of your
enemies.
Consider this period that you will spend in your prisons like a
preparation period, so donate waste your time in things that
donate benefit, come closer to the book of Allah and learn from it what
you can and if you have already learnt the Quran then revise it, and
then move forward to the Tafseer of the books of Fiqh and Hadith and
political Shariah if available in the prison, for every minute you will
regret when you come out of the prison because you did not utilize it
properly in learning and revising and remembrance.
And increase in your night prayers so that you strengthen yourself
spiritually and elevate your faith, for the prayers of the night are
ammunition that will aid you on patience and in facing the difficulties
of the prison and it will turn its darkness to light, and its narrowness
to ease and its despair to happiness.
Consider that you are in a preparation station or fortification of
faith, that will very soon end and you shall continue after that your
journey to Allah, for the ease is near InshaAllah, because no matter how
long the night of imprisonment is, there surely will be ease, and then
you shall miss these days that you spent in the prisons. This is like a
break in terms of movement but it is to be filled with study and
fortification.
Try to create a place for yourself in between the brothers in order
to create a favorable atmosphere that will help you to receive and arm
you with patience and courage to face everything around you and you will
find the fruits of patience very soon that Allah will grant you those
from around you who will ease the task of coping with the prison and
help you to overcome odds and be your best victor and mentor.
Know O beloved brothers that you are not alone, and the calamity if
it is general is easier as it is said, in spite of the fact that the
prison is not considered a calamity instead it is a trial and test from
Allah, and if Allah loves a slave He tests him, and from here, you will
realize that Allah Almighty loves you and thus He has chosen you with
other slaves so that you rise to this high position near Him, the
Glorified.
Know that there are also your sisters in Islam imprisoned and their
honor is being ripped off day and night in the prisons of the Jews and
Christians and the apostates. They are nevertheless patient and hoping
for Allah's reward, so how is it of men who are less exposed than them
to trial and harm. So this will doubtlessly put in your hearts hope and
satisfaction with the decree of Allah and consequently more patience to
endure the plight of the prison, which is not one grant but several
grants of which only Allah knows.
For when the brother evokes the images of his sisters in the prisons
of the enemies of God, he will, by Allah feel embarrassed to complain or
grumble about what he is in. Also, he will be little himself in front
of these chaste female prisoners, and will consider his misfortune
trivial, not worth anything in front of what his sisters encounter.
Also the detained brother should satisfy his self and raise its
spirits by victories of his Mujahedeen brothers and progress in the
various fronts and sites of fighting the enemies of Allah, for when he
hears from their news everyday, of their successive victories and their
vexation in the soldiers of Satan and Tyrants, then that becomes a cause
of pride and happiness for him, and it plunges in his heart a certainty
that his religion inevitably will be victorious, and our prisons are
involved in the reward no doubt . And why not and they are excused
because of they are held back only by the prison from the participation
in Jihad with their brothers.
It is also necessary that our detained brothers firmly believe that
their release from detention is considered from amongst the goals of
their Mujahedeen Brothers everywhere, for a major portion of their
struggle and efforts are focused in this direction. So they should be
pleased and let their eyes find coolness in this so that the Satan does
not enter their hearts and depict it otherwise. This is if the ease of
Allah does not come before that, for Allah Almighty will make for many
of our brothers in detention an opening and release, when Allah the
Almighty, realizes that these brothers have taken from the education and
training in the school of prison long enough in order to be eligible to
carry the weight of the trust of Dawah and Jihad.
Know O beloved that Allah has promised you for what is to come, and
look at your brothers who have preceded you in detention, from them are
those whom Allah have released and they have returned to continue their
battle against evil and its people, instead from them are those who have
become commanders and mentors in the arena of jihad, and this is by
Allah Almighty's grace alone then by the grace of that spiritual
training that they have earned in the prisons, and that long experience
that hardened him and made him a towering mountain that cannot be
compromised with, who is trustworthy on his religion, and Islam cannot
be sold out by him.
For the prison is the school of men, instead, of the Commanders of
Jihad, Allah willing, so be the best of successors to the best of
predecessors, and know that the Jihad will continue until the Day of
Judgement and that the battlefields of Jihad exhausts men with death and
martyrdom, so let you be the group that Allah promises for great
forthcoming things, and let Yusuf (peace be upon him) be your peer in
this regard.
This and I ask Allah to connect your hearts and make for you a way
out, and grant you more of patience and belief in the promise of your
Lord to you and us of victory and empowerment even though it might be
after a while, for the signs of victory and its initial indications are
on the horizon. They see it far, but we see it near. And all praise to
Allah the Lord of the Worlds in the beginning and at the end.
Abu Saad al Amili
