I need a TV in my Grave, Please !!!

Firstly, have a good laugh at the subject of this email.
Then, know that this is serious much more than we actually think.

We, the Ummah are stuck in a destructive situation. This slim & stylish box of Fitnah (trial) called TV is doing us great harm than we realize. We want it on it day and night, we complete our work quickly so that we are on couch ready even before a movie/ drama starts (doesn't matter if we are not this punctual for Salah), we spend hours accumulating sins quite enjoyably, we want a TV wherever we go - on a vacation at a hotel, in the hospital, in buses while traveling long and even in our bedrooms. Wherever we are, we make a request - "I need a TV please." As our final destination is grave, we might want to think, "Could I get an access to TV in my Grave?"

The only thing that will accompany us in our Graves is our Deeds.

Allah's Apostle (saws) said, "When carried to his grave, a dead person is followed by three, two of which return (after his burial) and one remains with him: his relative, his property, and his Deeds follow him; relatives and his property go back while his Deeds remain with him." (Bukhari)

I will not talk and waste your time to prove how movies (Hollywood, Bollywood or any other wood) which are completely submerged in Filth (dirt) are Haraam. Rather, I would like to focus on our misconceptions regarding the so-called "family dramas" that we "think" is Halal (lawful).

Why is it Haram?

  • We are looking/gazing at non-mehram men and dur-mehram women (may be in an affectionate manner - though sub-consciously).
Allah says in Qur'an:
“And tell the believing men to lower their gaze and be modest…And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest....” (24: 30-31)
  • The women we watch in such entertainment are immodestly dressed let alone they do not wear Hijab. And even though as some may argue that they wear modest traditional dress yet it does not fulfill the Islamic clothing criteria.
  • We watch Haraam behaviors and activities such as seeing them worship gods other than Allah, gossiping, listening to music that plays on in the drama, watching the illegal relationships/ extra-marital affairs, etc. What we are doing is actually enjoying ourselves by watching a Kaafir's lifestyle and their culture.
What does our Beloved Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) say about all this?
"Whoever amongst you sees anything objectionable (haram/ anti-islam/ unjust, etc), let him change it with his hand, if he is not able, then with his tongue, and if he is not even able to do so, then with his heart, and the latter is the lowest form of faith." (Muslim)

Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (ra) narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said:
"There are no people in whose midst sins are committed, and they do not change this situation although it is in their powers to do so, except that Allah will be near to overtaking them all with His punishment." (Abu Dawud)

Why is it Dangerous?
By watching the haram lifestyle and culture of Kufar on a TV we are not only piling up sins in our account of deeds (easily by siting on a couch!) but also it inspires us to imitate them - to live their lifestyle, talk, behave, deal with worldly affairs and so on like them which Islam does not approve of. Laws of Islam if for betterment of society not to mention the betterment of our Akhirah eventually.

Why would we want to watch the Kufar all the time on TV knowing that they are those on whom there is curse of Allah and they are ones who will be thrown in Hellfire? What are learning from them?
Why would we spend our maximum time of the day in displeasing Allah? Allah says in Qur'an:
"And I did not Create the jinn and humans except they should worship Me." (51:56)

Allah has created all we call the universe as a test for us. This is not our final destination.
Allah says in Qur'an:
"O man! What has made you careless concerning your Lord, the Most Generous?" (82:6)

The TV is not only destroying us but is a dangerous tool for our young generations. Young minds tend to adapt and like the fun lifestyle of west/ Kuffaar. They are easily manipulated, inspired and diverted from the Straight Path. They think "Its ok" to not wear Hijab, "its ok" to have a an opposite gender friend and mixing with them, "its ok" to not worship Allah, "its ok" to disobey parents", "its ok" to live life without boundaries, "its ok" to commit sins . Why? Because we have been showing and teaching them this.

What to do if not watch TV?
Its not an obligation to worship all day long, even though that is what will help you gain Allah's love, however there can be entertainment - but the one that is Halal.
  • Play Halaal with your children, siblings, cousins, grand-children. They will give you "real" happiness. It will bond you and them strongly.
  • Spend time with your spouses instead of numbing yourselves in front of TV, discuss Deen issues, Ummah issues or any talks or play with your husband/ wife games that are halal. It will create more love in your hearts for each other.
  • Buy some halal board games and play with your family. (There are even Islamic games/board games for family now)
  • Watch Islamic lectures/clips on youtube.
  • Watch animated movies. (without any haram scenes or evil moral to it)
  • Listen to Anasheed (Islamic songs) without Music.
  • Go for a walk with your spouse or family.
  • Enjoy the company of good practicing Muslim friends.
  • Indulge yourself in reading Islamic books, read the Seerah of our Prophets and Messengers and their companions, its like reading a story book but they are true beneficial stories that will bring your heart closer to them and love them for the sake of Allah.
  • Read and watch the news on your Muslim Brothers and Sisters and their situation and contemplate the means to assist them. (Watch news from authentic Islamic sources, on youtube many Muslim's share LIVE footage, don't listen and obey what the kuffaar say and portray).
  • And the best way to feel relaxed and satisfied - Do Dhikr & 'Ibadaah.
Allah says in Qur'an: "Verily, in remembrance of Allah do hearts find Peace." (13:28)

Important note: All halal entertainments becomes Haram, if we neglect our Salaah because of it.
