Forbidden to follow or imitate the Kuffar and Mushrikeen or take anything from them (in the matters of the Deen)!
It is a known rule, that the one who imitates Kuffar is part of them (the Kuffar), i.e. to wear their religious clothing of the Christian.
Allah said,
“O you who believe! If you obey those who disbelieve, they will send you back on your heels, and you will turn back (from Faith) as losers.” [1]
If a person starts obeying the Kuffar, they will naturally start following the Kuffar, and this will lead to imitating the Kuffar. In process a person will at some point commit an action which is Kufr Akbar and take them outside the fold of Islam.
Allah said,
“Never will the Jews nor the Christians be pleased with you (O Muhammad Peace be upon him ) till you follow their religion. Say: “Verily, the Guidance of Allah (i.e. Islamic Monotheism) that is the (only) Guidance. And if you (O Muhammad Peace be upon him ) were to follow their (Jews and Christians) desires after what you have received of Knowledge (i.e. the Qur'ân), then you would have against Allah neither any Walî (protector or guardian) nor any helper.” [2]
Allah said,
“O you who believe! Take not as (your) Bitanah (advisors, consultants, protectors, helpers, friends, etc.) those outside your religion (pagans, Jews, Christians, and hypocrites) since they will not fail to do their best to corrupt you. They desire to harm you severely. Hatred has already appeared from their mouths, but what their breasts conceal is far worse. Indeed We have made plain to you the Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses) if you understand.” [3]
Allah said,
“And you will not cease to discover deceit in them, except a few of them. But forgive them, and overlook (their misdeeds). Verily, Allah loves AlMuhsinûn (gooddoers).” [4]
Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri narrated that the Prophet (pbuh) said, “You will follow the ways of those nations who were before you, span by span and cubit by cubit (i.e., inch by inch) so much so that even if they entered a hole of a lizard, you would follow them.” We said, “O Allah's Apostle! (Do you mean) the Jews and the Christians?” He said, “Whom else?” [5]
This hadeeth is a warning from the Messenger of Allah not to imitate the Kuffar.
Abdullah ibn Umar narrated that Muhammad (pbuh) said,
“Whoever imitates a people, then he is one of them.” [6]
Narrated Ubaidullah: Ibn 'Abbas said,
“Why do you ask the people of the scripture about anything while your Book (Qur'aan) which has been revealed to Allah's Apostle is newer and the latest? You read it pure, undistorted and unchanged, and Allah has told you that the people of the scripture (Jews and Christians) changed their scripture and distorted it, and wrote the scripture with their own hands and said, 'It is from Allah,' to sell it for a little gain. Does not the knowledge which has come to you prevent you from asking them about anything? No, by Allah, we have never seen any man from them asking you regarding what has been revealed to you!” [7]
The Prophet (pbuh) said,
“Do not ask the people of the Book about anything.” [8]
Unfortunately after all the advice and warnings given Allah and His Messenger, the Ummah has fallen into the trap of following and imitating the Kuffar. And this is decree from Allah, as Allah said,
“And the Command of Allah is a decree determined.” [9]
Examples of how one takes and imitates from the Kuffar:
· Many have taken from the Kuffar the Aqidah of Hulul [10] others celebrate the birth date of Muhammad (pbuh) and this is another imitation of the Christians.
· The Prophet (pbuh) warned against imitating the Kuffar and said, “Do not imitate the Kuffar and build places of worship (i.e. masjids) over the grave yard.” However many sects around the world have built masjids over graves of people.
· The priest and rabbis were known to conceal the truth and present the falsehood, and in current times many learned persons imitate the priest and rabbis and conceal the truth and propagate the falsehood.
· The people of the past use to take rabbis and priest as lords besides Allah, currently many take the Imam’s and Shaykhs as lords besides Allah. [11]
· The Kuffar call for democracy, and now around the world many Muslims call for democracy.
· Muslims agree with the call of integration just like the Kuffar.
· Muslims rally behind the Kuffar and call for Interfaith.
· The Kuffar have ‘Christian Aid’ so the Muslims followed and started the ‘Muslim Aid’ organisation.
· The Kuffar have opened their banks, and Muslims followed them and opened so called “Islamic Banks” i.e. HSBC Ammanah Banking system.
· Kuffar are known for indulging in ribba based transactions i.e. mortgage, credit card, loans etc. the Muslims followed Kuffar even in this area.
· Music, socialism, communism, liberism, dress code, shaving, mannerism etc…
The imitation of the Kuffar by the Muslim community is endless and is manifested in all aspects of life i.e. social, political, judicial, economic, penal, ruling.

[10] Hulul is from the belief of the Christians, that God incarnated in form of a human being. And Ibn Arabi and Halaj were amongst those that claimed to this belief.
