Islam & Positive Thinking

As the Muslim Ummah is going through the difficult times today, it went through tough moments during the time of Prophet Muhammad (saw). As Muslims, we should and must learn lessons from the time of Muhammad (saw), how he and his Sahabah dealt with the difficult situation.

Before the establishment of the Islamic State in Madina, the Muslims were tortured, persecuted, economically boycotted and even killed. But, they never lost hope in Allah (swt). They knew that as long they obeyed Allah (swt) and followed what He prescribed, they will be victorious. They believed in this and lived according to it and practiced it. As it shows from the example of the prophet (saw), when he was ordered by Allah (swt) to migrate to Madina, after he was given the Bayah (pledge of support) from the people of Madina, he (saw) was almost about to be captured by a bounty hunter, when he (saw) told the bounty hunter to let him go. The man asked what he would receive in return. The prophet (saw) replied the man with a promise of getting the bracelet of the king of Persia. The bounty hunter did let the Prophet (saw) and Abu Bakr go and they reached Madina.

Subhan-Allah. Ponder upon this for a minute: being in the most weak position, yet having the trust in Allah that He will fulfill His promise, cause he (saw) knew that he was following the Huq (the truth). So he (saw) was able to offer the bracelet of the king of Persia, which was one of the two major super powers. This is like someone telling you that you will be given the keys to the Kremlin.

As it was promised by Muhammad (saw), that bounty hunter did receive that bracelet of the king of Persia, when it was conquered during the time of Umar (ra).

Another example comes to mind, when the Prophet (saw) and the Muslims were attacked in the battle of the ditch, Muslims lead by the Prophet started digging a ditch. The prophet himself started digging and trying to break a big rock with a hammer. Every time he (saw) hit the rock, a spark would come out of the rock. The prophet (saw) made a takbeer. After, the rock was broken, the companions asked the prophet about the sparks and the reason behind his takbeer. The prophet (saw) told them that at the first spark, he was able to see Muslims entering the Rome, at the second spark, he saw Muslims entering the Persia and the at third, Yemen was seen. Only the Muslims were able to comprehend this prophecy. The hypocrites started campaign against the Muslims based on this. But as we know, all the conquest happened within a very short time.

It is important to note that time of the battle of ditch, the Muslims were very scared. (please read Surah Ahzab and its tafseer for details on this).

In all of these above incidents, the Prophet was shifting the thinking of Muslims from thinking about their own safety to think about their responsibility towards the humanity. Therefore, Muslims shouldn't restrict their thinking to be limited to themselves. The role of the Muslim Ummah goes far beyond their own safety. It is the duty of the Muslim Ummah to work to save the entire humanity.

Furthermore, we as Muslims should learn always to think positively, no matter what the circumstance. As an Ummah, we are the Best, as Allah described in the Qur'an; as long we follow His commandments. We should not think ourselves as a minority group working to gain our rights, under a Taghoot (any system other than Islam) system. We are to carry Islam to humanity. We can only do this establishing Islam first, like Muhammad (saw) did in Madina and then carry it to the others.

May Allah protect us from ways of Shaytan and give victory to the Deen of Islam. Ameen.
