While living among the disbelievers...

If you are stuck among the disbelievers, and you are unable to do anything for Islam and Muslims elsewhere, feel great sorrow for yourself because Allah says:
"So, when they forgot (the warning) with which they had been reminded, We opened to them the gates of every (pleasant) thing, until in the midst of their enjoyment in that which they were given, all of a sudden, We took them to punishment, and lo! They were plunged into destruction with deep regrets and sorrows." [6:44]

We should also feel great sorrow because Allah does not want the believer to be among the disbelievers.

"...and be not with the disbelievers." [11:42]

"And incline not toward those who do wrong, lest the Fire should touch you, and you have no protectors other than Allah, nor you would then be helped." [11:113]

Then, dedicate your life to the remembrance of Allah and to acquiring knowledge, and do not interact unnecessarily with anyone unless it is someone who helps you remember Allah and the last day.

"O you who believe! Be afraid of Allah, and be with those who are true (in words and deeds)." [9:119]

If there is no one, it is better to be lone. The Prophet (saws) said:
“Be in this world as though you were a stranger or a wayfarer.” [Bukhari]

Not many people know a stranger or a wayfarer.

And, Ibn Umar (ra) used to say:
“In the evening do not expect (to live until) the morning, and in the morning do not expect (to live until) the evening. Take (advantage of) your health before times of sickness, and (take advantage of) your life before your death.” [Bukhari]

When avoiding the pleasures of this world and engaging in things that draw us nearer to Allah, there is also the opportunity of becoming a beloved of Allah (insha'Allah). This has amazing benefits in the life of this world.

The Prophet (saws) said that Allah said (in a Hadith Qudsi):
‘Whosoever shows enmity to a wali (friend) of Mine, then I have declared war against him. And My servant does not draw near to Me with anything more loved to Me than the religious duties I have obligated upon him. And My servant continues to draw near to me with nafil (supererogatory) deeds until I Love him. When I Love him, I am his hearing with which he hears, and his sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he strikes, and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask (something) of Me, I would surely give it to him; and were he to seek refuge with Me, I would surely grant him refuge.’ ” [Bukhari]

And, remember what the Prophet (saws) also said regarding trials and tribulations:

“...And know that victory comes with patience, relief with affliction, and hardship with ease.” [40 Hadith Nawawi]

And Allah knows best...
