It is Forbidden to Comment !!!

It is forbidden to comment/precede upon what Allah and His Messenger (pbuh) said in any sayings or actions.

After accepting the first two Asl of Ahl us-Sunnah wal-Jamaa'ah: -
(1) The Shariyah of Islam is the Deen of Allah and the Haq which He chose for all His creations (Jinn & Mankind) until the day of judgement
(2) and it is Complete (& encompasses solution for all matters).
One must also conclude based upon the fist two Asl (foundations) that it is forbidden to comment over what Allah and His Messenger (pbuh) have said.

(One will not be able to appreciate the third principle unless they understand the first two principles.)

What is meant by commenting above the speech of Allah and His Messenger (PBUH) is to utter or believe in statements like:
“I think the rule should be….”

“Why did Allah say so and so….”

“I prefer such and such way….” Etc.

There are many deviants who do not wish to accept the commands and prohibitions of Allah without to rationalise the answer, they seek some form of rational justification.  For these people it is not sufficient that it is an injunction from the Lord of the heavens and earth and all that is in between.

It is prohibited for a Muslim to say or attempt to do any action before knowing the prescribed hukm of Allah regarding the matter.

Allah said,
“O you who believe! Do not put (yourselves) forward before Allah and His Messenger (pbuh), and fear Allah. Verily! Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.” [Al Hujraat 49:1]

If a person claims to be subservient to Allah then he should not ask the ruling of the action after performing the action, instead knowledge of the ruling should precede the action.  Performing an action before finding out the ruling is a violation of the notion, ‘Exclusive subservience to Allah alone’.
The famous principle of Shariyah ‘all actions must be based upon the Islamic-ruling (Hukm)’ necessitates that the ruling must always precede the action.  One should always learn the ruling of an action first.

By nature man will always carry out an action based upon a particular type of ruling; the ruling will either be based upon belief or (lust and desires) Hawah.

There are some who make false interpretation of the verse Hujraat 49:1 they say,
“We cannot put ourselves forward of Allah because Allah is not tangible and we can not precede Muhammad (pbuh) because he has passed away, therefore this verse is not applicable to us.”

The interpretation used by these people is false and an extreme form of deviation.  The verse does not mean tangibly putting oneself in front Allah and His Messenger (pbuh), the verse ordains that one must not comment above the speech of Allah i.e. referring to the Hawah instead of submitting to the text.

Imam Qurtubi said on the commentary of Hujraat 49:1,

“Do not precede Allah and His Messenger (PBUH) in any sayings or any actions before you know the hukm of Allah (regarding the act), because the Shariyah covers all the ahkaam.”

One must realise that there is a distinction between the rule of action for man and the rule things. In the Shariyah the ruling for things is:
‘The original rule of all things is that they are permissible until text restricts (by the decree of the Legislator i.e. Allah)’

The principle is based upon the verse, in which Allah said,
“They ask you (O Muhammad-pbuh) what is lawful for them, Say: “Lawful unto you are At Tayyibat (lawful good).”“ [
Maidah 5:4]

Therefore all things are lawful, and only when the text restrict the permissibility of benefiting from a thing then one must refrain, because Allah said,
“Forbidden to you (for food) are: Al-Maytatah (the dead animals - cattle-beast not slaughtered), blood, the flesh of swine, and the meat of that which has been slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than Allah, or has been slaughtered for idols, etc., or on which Allah’s Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering, and that which has been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by the goring of horns - and that which has been (partly) eaten by a wild animal - unless you are able to slaughter it (before its death) and that which is sacrificed (slaughtered) on An Nusub (stone altars). (Forbidden) also is to use arrows seeking luck or decision, (all) that is Fisqun (disobedience of Allah and sin). This day, those who disbelieved have given up all hope of your religion, so fear them not, but fear Me. This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion. But as for him who is forced by severe hunger, with no inclination to sin (such can eat these above-mentioned meats), then surely, Allah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [
Maidah 5:3]

To make a thing lawful or unlawful is an exclusive right of Allah. However all actions of man are accountable hence the ruling related to actions is:

‘All actions (of a person) must be based upon hukm [
The hukm related to an action are one of five: 1) It is fard to do e.g. salah, 2) It is recommended to do e.g. pray nafilah, 3) it permissible to do e.g. drink orange juice, 4) It is disliked to do e.g. divorce 5) It is prohibited to do e.g. stealing.] (and every hukm must be based upon evidence)’.

One must make distinction between the ruling of things and ruling on actions undertaken i.e. a thing may be lawful (to benefit from e.g. apple) but rule of action depends on the circumstance e.g.:

·         If a person is fasting then the rule of action is: prohibited to eat the apple.

·         It also prohibited to eat the apple if it belongs to another person and has been taken without permission.

·         If a person bought the apple then it would be permissible to eat the apple etc.

There some who claim that there is no ruling regarding a matter until the Shariyah is revealed. This statement was true but after the death of Muhammad (pbuh) it is no longer valid, because now the Shariyah has been revealed, it is the Haq which has been completed and the only accepted Deen till the day of judgement.  Therefore none has the right to comment above Allah and His Messenger (pbuh).

As stated the one who believes that Shariyah to be the Haq and complete must not: believe, disbelieve, take, reject, do, not do, say and refrain from saying, on any matter before knowing the hukm of the matter.

When a person engages in any transaction without to refer to the Shariyah that person has inevitably violated the principle:

“It is forbidden to comment/precede upon what Allah and His Messenger (pbuh) said in any sayings or actions.”

Not referring to ahkaam Shariyah in all matters is a contradiction and violation of Tawheed. Our Tawheed should not be only manifested in Tawheed Asma, Siffat, Rububiyah and Uloohiyah, it must be also manifested in Itibaah to the Prophet (pbuh). When we testify the second part of the Kalimah:  “Ash hadu anna muhammaddan abduhu wa rasoolahu (I testify that Muhammad (pbuh) is the slave and messenger of Allah.”  We are in essence declaring that we have ‘ifraadun nabi Muhammad (pbuh) bil mutabah’ – exclusively following the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

The messenger Muhammad (pbuh) is the Prophet of Allah. And it is impossible love, worship, obey, submit to Allah exclusively unless we follow and not precede Muhammad (pbuh).

Allah said regarding following Muhammad (pbuh),
“Say (O Muhammad to mankind): If you (really) love Allah then follow me (i.e. accept Islamic Monotheism, follow the Quran and the Sunnah), Allah will love you and forgive you of your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”“ [
Al Imran 3:31]

To follow anyone other than the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) effectively means, one does not love Allah.  If a person wants to be from the saviour sect then it is conditional to have Itibaah to nabi of Allah. The Muslims have been ordered to follow Muhammad (pbuh) and only those whom have been authorised by him i.e. the Sahabah.

Imam ibn Qayim in his commentary of the verse Hujraat 49:1 said,
“do not precede means, do not say before the messenger says, do not order until he orders, do not call until he calls, do not issue verdict until he gives the verdict, do not decide on a matter until he gives his decision and do not engage in an action until he said do it.”

Many Muslims have failed in the area of Tawheed Mutabaah (exclusively following Muhammad (pbuh), which is also known in fiqh as Ta-assie (to do what the Prophet (pbuh) did, the way he did it and for the same reason).

Muhammad (pbuh) is the only example to follow and Allah said,
“Indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad-pbuh) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much.”
